Dan Mick prepares the "A" pod letter for finish. The letters should all be in place by next fall.

BHS to get new pod letters
By Jessica Mills

The Pod letters, what an ingenious invention, for those of us that can’t ever seem to get to class on time (Freshman or Seniors, as the case may be) have noticed that all the pod letters have been taken down and the bare wall remains. Having this trouble of getting to class won’t be a problem much longer with these great landmarks soon to be added to the décor of our own Brodhead High School once again. The once corky, picked at, and old letters are soon to be replaced by new ones. Made of Cherry wood and accenting the maroon border around our school, these will definitely make the guys from Queer Eye For the Straight Guy and Trading Spaces smile.

Thanks to the efforts started by the Art Club, led with fervor by our own Rachel Hamel and advised by Ms. Miller, the project was underway at the beginning of this semester or so. One of the main leading men in this project was, in fact, Dan Mick. Who, although graduated this past January had the heart to return to his beloved Brodhead High School and help to execute this project for the good of the student body. Using his skills as a woodworker, he cut, routed, and painted his way to almost the finish. Now, the art club, stepping up to the plate, has the glorious task of priming these letters for use and adorn-age of our high school. Another up and coming project still being worked upon by the club is their yearly trip. The seniors, with sadness hope that it will all come through before next year.

Jessi Blanchette was quoted saying, “I’ve been in this school long enough…it’s the freshman that need immensely huge wooden letters to tell them where they’re going.” Which, in many cases for the seniors happens to be the truth.

So, the next time you see someone painting or putting up a wooden letter for the Freshmen’s convenience, thank them…. they are doing us all a favor.

With the fanfare of the April 11 Community Performance came the end of the 2003-2004 Forensics season.

On April 3 Brodhead sent five of its Thespians to the State competition at the University of Wisconsin of Madison. Rachel Hamel, doing Solo-Acting, won a gold medal, Josh Heise (also in Solo-Acting) won a gold medal, Zach Heise (in Storytelling) got a silver, Lisa Demro ( in Poetry) won a bronze, and Jessica Mills, competing in Farrago, won a mini-bronze medal.

First year coach Ms. Wichita, was very satisfied with the teams overall performances this year.
