Joel Porterfield displays the exterior of his 1988 Chevy Cavalier. The interior, on the other hand, is not for the weak of heart or stomach.
Heap of the Month: Joel's Cav; the junkman cometh
|
This month’s heap is another Cavalier, like last month's. You will always see this grey/rust 1988 Chevy Cavalier. If you are ever lucky enough to drive this gem, and you ever need to throw out some garbage, there is a nice size hole in the driver door to get rid of anything thing. In addition, if you are riding in the passenger seat you should hope it is not raining because it leaks right above that seat. You have got to check out the interior ceiling on this beast, it is an old bed sheet all colored in with markers. It looks great.
If Joel ever needs to work on the engine he needs to pull the hood release, take the grill out of the way, then pull the cable again, and then open the hood. It is a full out workout just to get the hood open. Whenever he is taking a right turn he can just let go of the wheel because his front end alignment is so far off. When making a turn with this car you can’t turn to fast because the CV joints are shot. Also, don’t hit any bumps to fast because all of the shocks squeak and the rear left one is busted.
When he is cruising down main street listening to the radio he has to hit it every now and then because there is an electrical short in the wiring for the radio. Another problem with the Cavalier is that you always know when you have pulled the parking brake because it is a squeaky brake. Also, there is a nice size dent in the back left panel from some fun and games with the car. Lastly, when sitting in the back seat watch out for ashes getting on you cloths from all of the cigarette burn holes in the back seat. “The old Cavalier runs great most of the time but she looks like garbage,” said Joel. So, next time you see this grey rust bucket beware of it breaking down, or just watch out for garbage to fall out the door.
