Most Embarrassing Moments
By Teagan Shelton and Kiah Elmer

There is nothing to do in Brodhead. So my friends and I spend our time bowling. One time at the bowling alley, I really had to go to the bathroom, so I went to the restroom with my friends. I went into a stall and so did one of my friends. I decided to grab her foot and, to my astonishment, it was not her! It turns out I was actually grabbing the foot of an older lady. Talk about embarrassing!

During Show Choir, we had to do this somersault during the show and I fell off the front of riser and hit Kevin, who, during his somersault, hit Trent, and gave him a black eye, and other various injuries throughout the year. A.K.A., it happened more than once.

When I was a kid, at Christmas, I walked out into the living room with my underwear and a shirt on. I forgot my pants and when they pointed it out, I screamed like a girl and ran back to my room.

One morning, I was at school and I found out the back of my pants had ripped and people could see my underwear. As if that was not bad enough, when I was running to my car to go home and change, I tripped and fell right as everyone was coming in the building.

I was playing with a home-made stress ball filled with flour that exploded all over me, after saying a naughty word. I was full of flour, but still did my pushups.

One day, I was marching for band, and I stepped in a hole in front of the whole band with my French Horn, and ended up cutting my lip open!

One day during track practice, the girls were doing their warm ups. While they were warming up, some of the guys were playing Frisbee, and they kept getting in the girls’ way. One of the guys dropped the frisbee a few feet away from Mr. P. So P and the kid who dropped it raced to the frisbee, but P got there first, but the grass was wet, and when he tried to stop, he ended up sliding, and landing on his behind. Of course, everyone was dying with laughter, and when he got up he chucked the frisbee away, but it only ended up flying a few feet away.

I get very embarrassed by my car. Sometimes it dies in front of people and it is really loud when I turn it back on. I absolutely hate it.

I walked out of Mr. Krupke’s class one day and I forgot that I had my safety glasses on still.

One day I was at Jessica Kamp’s house for her birthday party. People were kind of bored and decided that they were going to play Ding-Dong-Ditch at her neighbor’s house. I stayed behind with my friends Tegan and Rachel, not really wanting to get into trouble. We went for a walk later that night along the side of the road and everything was going fine before a car went by and stopped by us. It made us a little nervous so we turned around and started walking the other way. The car turned around and came back to follow us. We kept turning around to try to get away from the car but it kept following us so finally we ran into the woods and starting running back toward Jessica’s house. I ended up running into a tree and hurting myself, and when we got back we were all full of scratches from the trees. I took frozen salami out of Jessica’s freezer and used it for one of my more serious injuries. I had to sit with it against my legs for the rest of the night. It was really embarrassing.

Free Fallin' an experience of a lifetime
By Brianna Strommen

Have you ever wanted to do something so great that hardly anyone else in your whole school gets to do it? During the end of last summer, on August 30th, my dad; my cousins, Ryan and Shianne; sister, Heather; brother, Kyle, and myself got to experience something we never thought we would be able to experience in our lifetime; going skydiving. On the morning of the big day, we had to leave Brodhead by 7:00 am, and be in Fort Atkinson at 8:00 am. We ended up getting to the Skydiving Center 15 minutes early and had to wait for someone to show up, so they could let us in. Sure enough, at 8:00 am sharp, someone pulled up in a van and got out. It was the owner of the place, Bo Babovic. This guy has over 10,000 jumps and his first jump was in 1975. The whole day with Bo was crazy, uplifting and an experience I will never forget. His two most overused phrases when we were there were “Lets make it happen,” and, “Life is good.” Once we got inside, we started filling out all of the paperwork, who they would need to contact if something were to go wrong and we were to “die.” I started thinking to myself “Why am I doing this?” After we got done filling out the paperwork, we got into a circle and they showed us how to open up once we jump out of the plane, which took about five minutes. After that, my nerves started to kick in as I heard the words I did not want to hear right away. “ Would Heather and Brianna please come back to get fitted into your skydiving suits.” I froze and got instant butterflies. So, I got back to the suits and met my instructor, Howy. I got put into an amazing leopard suit, and then got a pair of goggles to wear on the way down. When we started walking out on the grass toward the runway, we saw this tiny plane and were told it only held four people in it, but we managed to fit six people in! We were scrunched the whole way up. From the ground, to get up to 10,000 feet, took approximately 15 minutes. After we reached the altitude desired, the pilot stalled the airplane; during that time, my sister and I had to get on our knees and turn towards the front of the plane while we got fastened to our instructors. When that was done, they opened the side door of the plane, and then my sister and her instructor put their feet out on the ledge and out they went. Once they cleared, Howy and I got as close to the front of the plane as possible, and then Howy put his foot on the ledge and tapped mine, I had to hold my straps by my shoulder and get as low as possible. The trick to getting anyone out of a plane is not to tell them when they’re going to jump. That is where the fun began. When Howy was ready, we leaped from the edge and did a back flip into the air; once we cleared the plane, he opened the first chute to slow us down to 120mph. Talk about breathtaking. Free fall was about 1 min. but it seemed longer than that. After the minute, Howy pulled the actual chute and it jerked us way back up into the sky. We got to coast the rest of the way down, which was lots of fun. There were parts where he would let me steer the parachute all by myself and spin in circles really fast. The part I enjoyed the most was being able to enjoy the scenery. I had a disposable camera in my pocket and was able to take pictures on the way down. It took about the same time to get all the way down as up. The final part of skydiving was going in for the landing. Mine was not bumpy, unlike other peoples’ may have been. I had to listen to strict instructions on how to land from Howy; he told me to keep my feet straight out in front of me and then once he started running, I had to, as well. After I told myself that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, I got rid of my fears; I am going back again in the spring, hopefully. Now that I have told you all about my amazing experience, I have only one word of advice and that is, “Do one thing each day that scares you.”
